Cambridge Preparation for the TOEFL Test

Overview
TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) is a test conducted to determine the English language proficiency of students applying for higher studies in English speaking countries.
Originally designed as a test in the US by the Educational Testing Service (ETS), this test is now accepted in many English speaking countries across the world. It is held to ensure that those who enroll for courses in colleges and universities in such countries can understand what is being taught in class, can converse with fellow students, and can make themselves understood outside the campus as well.

Key Features

The first part of this audiobook concentrates on building supporting skills. It covers grammar, pronunciation, and vocabulary. The section begins with a discussion of learning strategies, note taking, paraphrasing, and summarizing. The content covers basic grammar and includes chapters like Clauses and Sentence Structure, Word Forms, Verbs and Verbals, Noun, Adjective and Adverb Clauses, Parallel Structures, and Referents. Cambridge Preparation For the TOEFL Test also covers connecting ideas, articles, comparison, word order, and prepositional phrases.

The second part of the book concentrates on building practical skills. It discusses reading, listening, speaking, and writing skills.

Comprehension skills like understanding the meaning from a connection of ideas, from context, understanding details and recognizable paraphrases, and drawing inferences and conclusions are also presented.
The listening section covers basic listening skills, making connections, identifying topics, understanding natural speech, and making inferences and drawing conclusions. The speaking section teaches pronunciation and cohesion. It provides practice with some integrated listening and speaking tasks to emulate real life situations that students might come across, such as interacting with fellow students on the college campus.
The writing skills section helps students learn to write concisely and cohesively, build developmental paragraphs, organize and analyze an essay, and write effective responses. The CD also contains seven practice tests and 200 exercises in addition to the complete audio program that helps students learn English and build listening, reading, speaking, and writing skills in this language.
